2024 May 29 Surprises All Around

I love this exact time of year! The lightning bugs appeared last night! They are the reason we garden the way we do…without pesticides or chemicals. Their larva burrow underground and the adults appreciate tall grasses and plants.

The wild Strawberries ripened all of a sudden! Such sweet little candies!

Carli found this mothlike bug as she weeded her little fenced pea garden area! I’ll update with an ID.

I almost wrote to the seller about how my Bocking 14 Comfrey not coming up. Then today I noticed a leaf I didn’t know…COMFREY! Right beside the composter…now I remember planting her there! She will make the perfect compost, according to my permaculture reading.

And we figured out why the Cardinal nest was empty…there’s a fledgling in the Arborvitae! He’s chirping away right behind me, but I won’t get a picture.
