2024 May 14 Warbler Wonderland

You already have everything that you need. Everything that you need you already have.”

This affirmation quote was shared as a chant in an Instagram post a while back. I’ll see if I can find the author.

After being away from Lakewood, Ohio for four days, I was worried the warbler migration might have already passed. This morning as I went to feed the chickens, the friendliest little American Redstart pair flew right with me along the grapevines. I sat on the bench by the pond and they flew all around me! It was a lovely way to come back.

Merlin tells me there are also Tennessee Warblers and Swainson’s Thrushes around. I also had to stop typing because somebody with a bright yellow “hat” and bright white body was just sideways on the trellis.

It’s amazing that people travel all over to view the warbler migration, but I don’t need to go anywhere! I follow Point Pelee National Park on Facebook. I do want to head up there soon, but all the birds they have posted recently I have already spotted in my yard.

Traveling to the Shenandoah River was amazing. My family tossed around the idea of having a little cottage of our own like the one we rented. Now here I am back home, and I’m full of the same excitement about my natural surroundings.

A female Indigo Bunting just visited the pond. I just had breakfast with the eggs my chickens provide. We have an amazing collection of native plants out front and back. It’s AMAZING what I have right here.
