2024 June 5 Finally a Good Rain
The hard, cracking ground under my feet worried me. We haven’t had a “good rain” in a long time. After the last few rains, it has stayed dry under the Catalpa tree. We really needed a deluge.
Luckily we got that tonight. It wasn’t a rip roaring storm, but it’s definitely soaking the ground. I’m so glad the Three Sisters seeds are in the ground. Carli and I also put as many Wedding Zinnia seeds and CempasĂșchil seeds in the ground as we could yesterday.
The Wedding Zinnias have been planted every year since even before our wedding in 2018. We planted our own flowers for the wedding and my sister cut and arranged them on that day. They were lovely. Now we replant the seeds every year and share them with anyone who wants them.
The CempasĂșchiles are a tall Mexican Marigolds. I usually grow them, but didn’t last year. Luckily my good friend neighbor Emily had some and lent them to me for our Day of the Dead Celebration at school. They are a sacred flower for precolombian festivals. The fragrance and color are supposed to guide the spirits of the ancestors to your altar on the Day of the Dead.
I hope the seeds awaken tonight. I hope the Earth feels more like a sponge again. I hope there was enough rain for the earthworms to wiggle real good tonight.
