2024 June 17 Zoo Week Two

I feel like I won the lottery sometimes. 10 hours of manual labor does start to feel rough by hour 8, I won’t lie, but I do love it. Today I got to work in the Flamingo enclosure cleaning up the Lamb’s Ear and weeding a bit. I got stung by a bee. It was ok.

Yesterday, I got to go to the Metroparks Lakefront Reserve and cut down invasive Mullberry for animal “browse”. The Elephants, Rhinos, and other critters will eat a lot of the plants that grow around here, so it’s important to know your trees, shrubs and vines. I even got to drop off the browse inside the elephant enclosure. I love it. I can’t wait to see what I get to do next.

Watering, weeding, pruning, hauling, mulching, chopping -it’s the care of plants and animals and myself that I love.
