24 April 2023 Chickaletta and the Kitchen Sink
Chickaletta is the big red hen.
It’s crazy our big chickens have so many more problems than the bantams. I will only get bantams from now on. Both Chickaletta and Sally were fosters, so we didn’t actually choose to have full size hens.
There’s a lot going on today. I wanted to help out with the soil booth at LCCC this morning for the Earth Day event, but now it looks like I’ll be with my chicken at the vet.
Actually it’s not really the kitchen sink, it’s the floor that got messed up after a sink leak last year. Tomorrow, we have the Floor Doctors coming to install a new kitchen floor. Nothing special, just a vinyl sheet. We are really hard on our floors with animals and the back door though the kitchen. I bought $2000 worth of tile that nobody would install in a 100 year old house. It’s annoying because I know it can be done. I tiled the bathroom with my friend, and Carli’s Uncle Sam tiled our entranceway. Both are holding up fine. I just knew the kitchen was a big job and Uncle Sam’s health isn’t as good anymore.
This fridge could withstand nuclear attack. It’s a solid beast and almost 100 years old. Why would I even consider anything else?
So today I’ll be somehow moving out the 1932 Hotpoint fridge and 1940s tank of a Tappan Deluxe stove into the dining room I guess. The fridge is currently defrosting, so I’m dealing with that too. Ugh. No fun. It’ll be good to have a new floor though. Waterproof. Finished.
I can’t even bring myself to do a before picture of the kitchen. I’m embarrassed to have lived on such a broken floor for so long.
Update: The doctor says Chickaletta is healthy and happy. She’s a great patient.
