2024 April 14 Lovely April Sunday
This morning, whilst still in pjs and slippers, I pulled out the butterfly bush and Japanese daisy. Both were taking up too much space and growing at triple the pace of their peers. When we first decided to go a front yard pollinator garden, we thought of course a butterfly bush is standard. We bought a beautiful purple one, a white one, and two little magenta ones. While we knew all about the benefits of native plants, we didn’t know much about invasive plants or the problems with non-natives to the ecosystem. We actually fell in love with the butterfly bushes and photographed so many monarchs taking in the nectar.
As we learned more, however, we couldn’t keep going. We compromised and decided to pot up the two big butterfly bushes. I bought a button bush and a winter berry from the Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District. Actually, they should be here by now…I’m hoping the mistake with autocorrect and my address was fixed. Fingers crossed.
So I pulled up the bushes, potted up the butterfly bushes, and replanted the rattlesnake master. I’m so productive on Sundays when I’m avoiding doing my finals and getting ready for a week of state testing…
