2024 April 13 This Planet is Too Beautiful to Act this Way

I didn’t do my early morning blog routine today. Everything was a little bit off. I didn’t have milk for my coffee so I drank it black with honey. But the sun was bright right away and I wanted a moment to weed the garden, so that’s what I did.

After a really productive Saturday, an afternoon drive through the metroparks and a quick stop at the reptile shop, we went to visit my mother in law, Marilu. She’s an excellent cook and she made us an “award winning” Caesar salad and eggplant parmesan. “Award winning” is Carli’s phrase for top notch.

A series of mundane but annoying events later in the evening involving a missing W-2, and printing out a tax extension at the library led us to the bar for one last Saturday drink. And as this mundane day goes on…the other side of this beautiful planet just started a war. One of the TVs flashed Breaking News that Iran was bombing Israel and that President Biden was siding with Israel. The Cleveland Guardians baseball game wasn’t even interrupted about this news.

“We have this beautiful Earth and people just want to ruin it. The planet is too beautiful to act this way,” Carli commented as we walked home.

If you want to know which side of the political situation I fall on: I know the stages of genocide and I am a thousand times against genocide. I also wholeheartedly believe that genocide and war would not be happening if women were in charge worldwide. So I’m also on the side that liberates women. These two statements together may look something nebulous in the lens of this current political conflict, but looking beyond this particular war, you can see clearly what I believe is the real villain: the patriarchy. If peace, fulfillment and beauty are ever going to be achieved, we would be following the lead of women.

So now I’m back home cozy drinking sparkling ginger water while Carli bushes the cat, and a war just got extra real across the world. I feel powerless during world events.
