2024 October 9 Cleveland AAZK Tree Planting

If you’ve ever wondered what happens to the pennies thrown into a wishing well, I can tell you in this case they went to reforestation in the Hinkley Reservation near Judges Lake! The front zoo fountain was drained and the change went to buying native trees! The Greater Cleveland American Association of Zoo Keepers Association (AAZK) and a few of us members of the Zoo Horticulture team joined the Cleveland Metroparks Natiral Resources team on a Wednesday after work and planted some trees in an area that had some construction work in it previously.

The volunteers!
The finished product! We surrounded each tree with fencing to mitigate deer problems.
Working diligently during golden hour!
The American Basswood Tilia americana I planted.
