2024 September 7 Dragonfly Migrations
We’ve had a handful of Monarch Butterflies come through. Yesterday I saw a Black-Throated Blue Warbler and also somebody quick and yellow. I’m grateful that birds and butterflies stop by my house every year.
The Black Saddlebag Dragonfly rests on Butterfly Weed.
Today I looked up in the sky and saw about six black dragonflies! I had to look them up. Yes, they migrate too! The Black Saddlebag Dragonfly Tramea lacerata has cool clear wings with intricate black patches on its hind. They are carnivores who eat other insects, like mosquitos. I couldn’t find information on where the Black Saddlebags go, but only that they do go and they are found throughout North America
.
Zoom in to see the intricate patterns.

Safe travels, sweet dragonflies!
