2024 July 20 Gardenwalk Lakewood Highlights
This was the first year we didn’t register for Gardenwalk Lakewood since it’s a transition year for the back yard. Our community garden was on the walk, so we participated through that. Carli and I decided to ride the scooter around to check out a few anyway and we were impressed and inspired by our neighbors! Here are some highlights:
My first apartment was on the tour! The yard is beautiful all around. When I lived here on the second floor in 2010, the yard was overgrown, so I had planter boxes on the balcony. I love to see the house and yard being lovingly cared for!
Here I am on the balcony of the house above with my niece Katie in 2011. You can see my Squash, Cucumber and Gerber Daisy. The rocking chair still sits on my porch at my house today.
The sweetest neighbor and her kindergarten age daughter gave me seeds for this Candy Cane Chocolate Cherry pepper above. Check out her seed organizer below! This is next level! So generous too! I can’t wait to plant these next year.
This is a Cup Plant that I want to winter sow next year (above). I wish I took more photos at this house. The owners were artists and had lovely garden decor and drawings for sale! Also not shown are the bougainvilleas she had in pots out back. I used to love my bougainvilleas in Nicaragua, but I’ve never seen them in Ohio.
This house above encompasses our lifetime garden goals. Every inch was carefully planted and the native plants stole the show! The next pictures below are from this same house. A water feature (there were many!), a Staghorn Fern on a tree trunk, a pretty window vine, and garden signs:
Thank you for the inspiration and exciting conversations, Lakewood Neighbors! We’ll be back in it next year!
