2026 March 3 Soft Landing “Mulch” Day
The maintenance plan for the soft landing calls for leaf litter mulch. We blew the leaves from the other landscaped beds into the soft landing area. The soft landing is definitely covered in leaves now, but it might be too deep for a new planting. Once established, the plants are pretty strong woodland species that are adapted to forest floors, but in their first year we might need to baby them a bit.
A nice layer of fallen leaves should be just the right mulch for a native landscape.
Oak and maple leaves can form a thick mat that will smother small plants. This is great for suppressing invasive species. I ended up taking the rake and evening out the coverage a bit. We might need to check again after all the rain forecasted. We’ll see! I love a good experiment. I predict it’ll all be fine.
This little spot is small but significant. It’s blending in nicely.
